Farina is one of the outback’s great surprises — a ghost town of stone ruins sitting on the old Ghan Railway line. For most of the year, it’s quiet, atmospheric, and a brilliant place to wander around with the bike parked nearby. But in winter, the place springs to life when volunteers fire up the underground Farina Bakery, drawing riders, travellers, and half the outback with the smell of fresh bread and pastries drifting through the ruins.

It’s a unique mix of history, community spirit, and pure outback charm. If you’re anywhere near the Oodnadatta Track during bakery season, it’s absolutely worth the detour.
