Overview

From the wild surf of Victoria’s Great Ocean Road to the ancient stone peaks of the Grampians and the deep green heart of the Otways, Sea to Stone is a 4-day adventure ride designed to capture the best of the state’s southern landscapes.

The journey begins in Lorne, where the Southern Ocean pounds the coastline and riders head inland, leaving the surf behind as farmland backroads lead to Ararat, a goldfields town resting at the foot of the Grampians. The next stage dives straight into the Grampians National Park itself — a mix of gravel ridgelines, sweeping valleys, and mountain lookouts — before rolling westward to Hamilton, with its wide plains and country hospitality.

From Hamilton the route bends back to the ocean, carving southeast towards Port Campbell, home to the iconic 12 Apostles and rugged limestone cliffs that define the Great Ocean Road. Here, the sea takes centre stage once again before the final day delivers a classic finish: a run through the towering gums, fern gullies, and twisting ridge roads of the Otway Ranges, dropping riders back into Lorne where coast and forest meet.

This is more than just a ride — it’s a journey across contrasting worlds. Four days of mixed terrain, country towns, epic scenery, and the perfect balance of dirt, bitumen, and backroads.

Over four days you’ll ride more than a 1100km's through some of Victoria’s most striking landscapes. Leaving the surf at Lorne, the route heads inland across farmland and backroads before climbing into the rugged sandstone ridges of the Grampians. Here, dramatic cliffs, sweeping gravel trails and mountain lookouts set the tone for true adventure riding.

Rolling further west, the open plains around Hamilton stretch endlessly towards the horizon, broken only by winding country backroads and quiet bushland connectors. It’s the calm before the return to the coast, where the journey leads into Port Campbell. Nestled on the Great Ocean Road and home to the iconic 12 Apostles, this stage of the ride delivers one of Australia’s most photographed coastal landscapes — a fitting reminder of the scale and drama of the route.

The final push is a highlight in itself, diving into the lush forests of the Otway Ranges. Towering gums, mossy gullies and twisting ridge roads create a flowing, technical playground for adventure bikes, carrying you back towards the ocean. The ride closes where it began, at Lorne, with the salt air of the Southern Ocean on your face and the satisfaction of having conquered the ultimate coast-to-stone loop.

Expect a balance of flowing gravel, hidden forestry trails, quiet backroads and winding sealed sections that keep each day dynamic and rewarding. Evenings are spent in classic pubs and motels, with hot showers, hearty meals and a cold beer — the perfect reset before another day on the bike.
